Weekend Warrior

Merry Christmas Weekend Warrior Readers! I am writing a day late as I am off today, and Christmas day just happens to be on a Monday this year. Which means New Year’s Day will also be on a Monday. That means 2 three day weekends, and 2 four day work weeks. Yahoo!

Friday night was spent shopping for coffee, and liquor. My husband wanted a bottle for Christmas, and I got him what he wanted. I also bought 2 bottles of wine (1 a week is my usual wine shopping plan) and I wanted a little something extra.  I looked really hard at the Writers Tears Irish Whiskey bottles. There are three kinds, a Writers Tears Copper Pot, a Writers Tears Red Head, and a Writers Tears Cask Strength. I have tried the Copper Pot, and it was very good. I want to try the Red Head next, as the expert at the store recommended it as his favourite. When I am a Best Selling Author, maybe then I can splurge to try the Cask Strength. It is the most expensive of the trio.

I bought a new to me kind of wine. I had never heard about Cabernet Franc. I purchased two bottles, and they were $13 and $30 respectively. The less expensive bottle was enjoyed last night, and it was good. I am curious to see if the more expensive bottle is a different quality or not. I will be making a Facebook live video when I try new wines now, as something I am learning about as I try to find THE ONE. At that time, I will make my own in that same style. Roy said I wouldn’t be able to keep doing my videos and reviews if I did that. I enlightened him. I will then switch to white wine. 😉  Champagne will have to wait for me to be able to afford it. But there are always options.

This morning I decided that it would also be fun to do Facebook Live video reviews of the different coffees I try. I love coffee too, so why not? People seem to like these ideas so I will start with the one I bought on sale Friday night. Jingle Java. It sounds like fun!

Saturday we did a bit of grocery shopping after I joined some friends for a breakfast at Houlie’s. It was a ladies breakfast, and it was nice. I then joined one of the ladies for a trip to the mall. I went for the walk. She had a few things to get, and I had fun hanging out and commenting on the fun things we saw. I rarely go to the mall anymore, and it was fun to just go hang out at the mall. It is not something that I did as a teenager, like a lot of you would have done. It was an hour drive each way to go to the smaller mall of the two cities I had a choice between in Cape Breton, growing up, so it wasn’t a regular thing we were able to do.

Saturday was also the day to get groceries. In the two different stores we went to this weekend, they were sold out of turkeys. (I had to think of how to spell that one, -ies or -ys) By the time we finished, the weather had turned a little nasty. Freezing rain is not pleasant to walk or drive in.

Sunday involved a quick run out to the store for a few missed items, and that was all we did. I watched some tv and movies. I had my wine. It was a nice relaxing day.

Today is my bonus day off this week. I am going to make some veggies to go with the chicken I cooked last night, and get the kitchen back into working order. I cook, the food is great, I don’t like cleaning it up.

I dressed up and played with makeup again. You should expect a second Makeup Monday story soon. It may not be long, but it will have makeup and a pic of me in my new dress as well. 🙂 Merry Christmas, and keep on winning the weekends, folks. You make the best use of your time, and you will win them all, too!

What did you do this weekend?

Weekend Warrior

Well, another weekend is coming to a close, and I have hibernated for as much of it as I could. Winter is here, and it has been cold outside. Sleeping in was on my list, and I can say that it happened indeed. I woke with no alarm clocks being set for 2 days in a row. It was glorious. My favourite thing about the weekend is sleeping in. Sometimes I have to get up and go do things, but not this weekend. I stayed home and did things here instead.

Friday night I didn’t even go get the car. I came home after a day of Christmas Cheer at work. I had to decorate my pod for Christmas, and I did it up right!

Christmas 2017 at work

I don’t know why the pic is squished, and I had to add a little bit of graphics to hide the photo bomber. 😀 The wall on the left had a lot more Christmas balls hanging before I was done. My taller Santa is on the top right, and there were 2 gingerbread people behind where my head was by the time I had finished. I had fun, and I am hoping that my efforts earned me a prize.

I had to pack it all up at the end of the day and brought it all home. I have just encouraged Roy to clear a space for the Christmas tree and village in the living room. Since it is a small tree, I will set it all up in the little spot I had him clear. I will share pics of that next weekend after I have time to set it all up. There is just the two of us, so no need to make a big production. I do want to set it up, though. Tis the Christmas Season, and I am wanting to take a pic with it after it is all done.

Saturday was spent working on Social Media. I am working on building my author profile, as you know if you are reading my blog, and I came across a post by a friend asking about what word I would want to use to define my 2018. I thought about it, and 2017 was worthy of 2 words. Learning and Challenges. As I thought about it, really not that long at all, a word came right to the forefront of my mind that I wanted it to be. I then turned it into a graphic and made it my cover pic on my wall.

SUCCESS twitter

Also this weekend, I have set goals for working on my website, done 2 completely different profile pics in preparation for my Author Headshot, and also for my Blog. I am launching the monthly Makeup Monday category tomorrow. I will not be posting there every week, I have 3 weekly posts now, and if I add too much more I will not have any time to write my books! I can say that I am steeping the GGMS I wrote about making on Thursday, in Trust Your Gut and that I have 3 types of chicken cooking in my oven as I write this. Last week was more of a ground beef week, this week it is all about the chicken!

I will be sharing more about my word choice for 2018 in Treasure Seeker Tuesday this week. Which means the one I wrote for this week is now scheduled for Boxing day. What? I actually have a Tuesday already drafted for 2 weeks in the future AND I know what I want to write about this week? I think I might actually be getting a handle on this blogging thing. I would love to get ahead enough that I don’t sweat missing the deadlines anymore. But, as I have said before and will again, progress is progress.

I did not go out into the cold and snow this weekend, but my Ambivert Personality has to be balanced somehow. I found out this past week that when I do the personality type quizzes, that I am sometimes an Extrovert, and other times an Introvert. That tells me I am a little of both, which is called an Ambivert. I like being social, and outgoing, but not all of the time. Sometimes I need a weekend or two to just be at home relaxing. I can do either when I want to, but I also equally enjoy both activities.

Do you have a Defining Word picked out for 2018 yet? If you do, please share it below, and keep it in mind for Tuesday. If you are up for a challenge, I have an idea that you can participate in if you want to try an experiment with me.

Weekend Warrior

I am feeling a little stressed about getting my list of things done this weekend. I had Wednesday off, this past week, and I worked yesterday to make up the missed time. I usually have 2 days for a fun filled weekend, and this week I was only able to work with one.  Let’s review Friday and today, then.

Friday there was a potluck at work. I was up into the wee hours early Friday morning preparing for both the potluck at work and the TGIO (Thank Goodness It’s Over) NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month – November – An annual challenge.)  So I made it through work, had a successful potluck, and rushed home to cut the cheese! I planned cheese and crackers for the party.

I was really surprised that one of my guests brought along a bottle of Writers Tears Irish Whiskey to try. I loved it. I will be buying some to put in my flask that friends brought me as a gift from Scotland. It is in a pink and purple and blue tartan holder. It is adorable, and a really good effort at matching the MacWebber Tartan I designed. 😉

The party was small, with only 2 guests. The other guest brought art supplies, and we all sampled the whiskey, listened to music (I introduced them to the Screaming Goats Christmas Album before going to my mixed tape list) and we got crafty.

I decided to make the characters of my book, the main 5 cats, for the sticky sticks. The end result of my artwork looks like this:
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

From left to right we have Dude, Lucy, Rascal, Missy, and Simba. These cats are the main characters in my book, From Where I Am Sitting A Collection of Cat Stories by Tish MacWebber. I am still writing it and will update when it is ready for publishing.

Yesterday I worked for 8 hours. Then I came home and worked on my #Momentum18 Challenge. I am getting things done, and other things are brewing in my mind. I had to creep the Facebook walls of my ideal customers, to find out what they are interested in, and to share it. Thankfully, most of them enjoy humour, sarcasm, and wit. I can keep working with that in mind, and know that they will laugh with me. 😀

Today I have spent at least another 8 hour day working on the social media platform. We ran out to the store for an hour, and have settled in for the night. I made a new Facebook Live video for my contest, and plan to film every evening this week. I have other projects on the go, but I am quite tired after a very busy and way too short weekend. What did you do this weekend?

Friday after work I got the car. I do that sometimes. I get my co-worker to drive me to where it is parked, and I call it “Grand Theft Auto” even though it is my car and I have the keys, and my husband knows I am going to use it. I have to go and get him at the end of his shift at his work, so I don’t usually get the car on other days unless there is a reason I need it.

I found food and then went to Shoppers Drug Mart. Again. This makeup thing is starting to get a little serious. I got a fourth mascara and a blending sponge. I had found out that I was sold the wrong type of facial toner, so I bought the correct one and I got a double glow facial mask, that I tried Sunday. I am only supposed to use it two times a week. I will let you all know how I do with it. The skin care is Vichy, I like their products. I got another eye makeup remover, too. I do not like the ones I have. The products that I bought that are wrong for me will be offered to a friend that might be able to use them. I am thinking about a new Blog category. It is not going to be weekly, it will likely be monthly. I am thinking Makeup Monday (coming soon!) will be what I call it. I will then review different products, and maybe I will be able to do that in an official capacity when I launch the website.

I have had so many thoughts relating to the website this weekend, my head is spinning. I am going to work on it this week, with the million other projects I have on the go.

On the way home, I stopped in to see friends. They had told me not to buy a photo box for taking pictures of my Treasures aka Bling for the website. They had a DIY version, and they wanted to show me how to make it. I am sure I can make it, but I am still not sure how it will work. Once I have the box, then I will have to work on optimizing the pics from the camera I have; or find a new camera. I am watching the cell phones to see what one has the best cameras. I will be aiming for a new phone in 2018.

I stayed for a visit with my friends. We had a lovely evening, just chatting about makeup, cats, NaNoWriMo, and my book writing. My friend has gone a little further than I have into the land of makeup, and I appreciate learning all that I can.

Saturday was a slow start to the day. I got to sleep in, which was nice. I did a little work on the social media and got ready for a party.  I am a Member of the Fredericton Science Fiction Society (FSFS). It mainly consists of a core group of friends that used to have official business meetings, and now just plan potlucks and events.  I brought the ingredients to make your own big mac salad with me. People liked it. There were other treats and pop to drink.  The Christmas FSFS party has a Ferengi Swap, for gifts. We also had a trivia contest, and a Sci-Fi themed ‘Pictionary’ game. It was a lot of fun, even though somebody I am married to didn’t want to do anything. LOL! Majority ruled!

I sometimes go swimming at these parties, as they are held at a hotel. This year I would have had to go alone, so I chose to stay with the group.  We had a fun time, and there was a door prize that was not actually a door.

Sunday I continued with my challenge, and then participated in an online chat with the Happy Writing Group, both on twitter and facebook. I have been learning how to use twitter with this chat, and I think I am getting the hang of it.

That wraps another weekend up nicely in a bow. What did you do this weekend?

Weekend Warrior

Wait, did I just write the number 40 up there in the title?  That is crazy! Have I written about my wacky little weekend adventures for 40 weekends in a row? Are you still reading? I will keep writing if you keep reading. OK? We have a deal!

Friday night…what a fun time I had. I left work and went SHOPPING with friends for a Girls Night Out! I had a few things that I needed to get, and I was going to combine the shopping with fun. I am so glad we did it, as everyone had some new things to bring home, and I found some great new pieces of clothing, bought the first Christmas gift of the year and scored some new makeup with more points!

We stopped for fast food before the shopping started. We parked where the shopping would end, and walked to the different stores instead of driving. They were all in the same strip mall, and the A&W was close too. I just got a small root beer and a Mozza Burger. It was not enough to hold me over, I ended up getting a treat later on. However, it did the trick to get me ready to go try on clothes.

I found two sweaters, a pair of jeans, and a pair of pants. These items were what I had hoped to find on sale. I could not pass up a purple polo shirt. But the surprise was a ribbed knit dress that is a sweater dress. The skirt flares and the dress is navy with a black trim. It is gorgeous! I have decided that it will be the dress I wear when I finally get my official Author Headshots done. I was thrilled to find it, and when I tried it on, it was one of those moments when you think, “This is going home with me, even though I wasn’t looking for a dress.” It is now waiting for me to check the washing instructions.

We finished shopping for clothes and took a break at Starbucks. We also took that time to show each other what we bought when we split up. While I was waiting for my drink to go with my reindeer cookie (I needed a little something to keep going) I looked at the decor. I saw that the artwork on the wall is balanced and even, not in odd numbers like they say groupings should be in to be more appealing to the eye. Then I looked up. I could not believe what I was reading on the wall.

“Our mission: to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.” Does that sound familiar to you at all? It really reminded me of the beginnings of my Branding journey.

It was a part of my Culture Credo that I made.
“Bling: one bead at a time
Blog: One word at a time
Books: One Chapter at a time”

If I hadn’t made plans to go out, I would still not have made that connection. I think it is kind of cool that I came up with this on my own, and that it has a lot of potential to help me to grow my brand. I just thought it was really neat.

We finished our night with makeup shopping. I bought 2 new lipsticks, a facial mask that I should use twice a week, a new moisturizing cream, and a new blush. As I used the optimum points, we were at the Shoppers we went to last time, I paid half price for everything when I cashed them in.  In December, I will write another makeup blog story. I have to get the most out of November while it is still November.

About my NaNoWriMo novel. I am working on it, and I am farther than I have ever been with it in the terms of writing a book. I have received fantastic feedback with the little pieces I have shared in a writing group, or talked about with friends. I may not get to the 50,000 words by November 30th, at midnight, but I will keep writing it, and I will publish the book when it is ready.

Saturday I had a rushed start to get my house presentable. I scrambled around and managed to do the best I could. Then I hosted a write-in for the local NaNoWriMo group. Two people made it. I have decided that it would be OK to host the Thank Goodness It’s Over (TIGO) party. We will be having snacks, and listen to some music. It is scheduled for a Friday in December, and I will write about it after it is over, in that weekend warrior. We had some writing sprints, and we all left with more words at the end of the afternoon, so it was productive. I had some things gathered as door prizes, so my guests left with smiles on their faces, too!

Today was spent catching up. I was catching up on social media. As an up and coming author, it is a part of my job. I helped my husband prepare a grocery list, and sent him off to get the groceries. I cooked a roast. We put away the groceries. I am washing my new clothes, which I am writing this blog. I participated in #Momentum18, a new challenge I found online that is going to help me with my entrepreneurial goals. It is a 4 week challenge, and I will share some of the things I am working on here each week.

What did you do this weekend?

Weekend Warrior

Here is another weekend, wrapping up. Not close to being finished what we are working on, but we are going to get up and go in a few minutes to keep getting the living room reorganized.

I am happy to report that I was busy this weekend, it was relatively quiet, and mostly at home, so I got the downtime I needed after the excitement earlier this week. I also did some writing, which I had not made enough time for, and I was stressing over that too.

Friday night I came home and decided to join in some writing sprints for NaNoWriMo. There is a time set and we all write on our own. When the time is up we share a bit and tell our word count totals. Between Friday and Saturday, I did four of these, and I got over 10,000 words written for the novel. Editing will be necessary later, but the point of Nano is to get the word count. I am finally moving in the right direction again.

That is my highest word count on any novel writing to date. I am so pleased that from here on out I am beating my own personal record with EVERY SINGLE WORD.

I have spent time shredding paper in the living room, to have less clutter to deal with as we reorganize the living room. We have been planning to do this for a while, and it is finally happening. There may be pics next weekend as it should be done by then.

Today I started with a movie and breakfast out after. I wasn’t impressed, so I am not going to write about the food. I enjoyed the movie. We went to see Justice League. It was better than the critics are leading people to believe. We all enjoyed it. They are making me a fan of Wonder Woman all over again. Aquaman was well, um, yeah. Nice.

There was a new Deadpool trailer before the movie, and in typical Deadpool style, it was totally hilarious and had not too much to show about the movie. If they can duplicate the success from the first one in the next one, I am going to be very happy. But don’t bring your kids. Deadpool movies are NOT for kids. I am a fan, however, and I plan to go.

As I still have a list of things to do here this weekend, I am going to get back to it. I am feeling like we made enough progress that I want to keep the momentum going.

Weekend Warrior

Another weekend win for me this week!  I was kidnapped on Friday night while driving my own car of my own free will and coerced into a girl’s night out with a friend. We hadn’t had a lot of fun It had been a while since we saw each other, so I decided it was worth it to spend time away from writing and be with a friend.  We went out for dinner and a movie. It was a lot of fun.

Saturday had a slow start. I watched the Remembrance Day ceremony held in Ottawa on TV. I do appreciate the sacrifice that anyone and everyone made to give me the freedoms that I enjoy today. I also watched a show on the History Channel. It was a roundtable discussion of veterans and they were sharing some of their experiences. For the better part of 3 hours, I thought about my grandfather, listened to the stories, and watched the ceremony. I also was away from social media for those hours. It was how I wanted to remember, and I am incredibly thankful that I have the choice to do it in a way that felt personal to me. I had a root beer in honour of my grandfather, he used to drink root beer.

I then took my time on social media, sending out a few things, to let people know I was back. I planned to clean my desk and the living room. While I was watching TV, I was thinking about the furniture arrangement. Roy had suggested a plan to move things around, but I wasn’t sold on his plan. I saw an alternative to it in my mind, and when I described it to Roy, he thought about it, and he liked it too.  He modified the idea I had, but we are now on the same page and we started cleaning to prepare. Stores were closed on Saturday. That night he went out to hang with the guys. I worked on the cleaning.

I got up and wrote something Sunday morning. Early. I went back to bed, and I dreamed about the thing I wrote being stolen, changed, and passed off as the original work. I thought my life was in danger, but it was just my writing. After I got up I calmed down; and made breakfast.  Then I waited and waited. Finally, we went to buy the DIY project supplies and a few other things we needed. Later on, much later on, Roy pulled out the saw he bought and started cutting wood. I made him stop, it was late and too noisy. He will finish another time.  We want the room to be reorganized and ready for next Saturday. I am hosting a NaNoWriMo write-in and then heading out to watch my friend in a Karaoke competition.  So next weekend will be busy, but I have time scheduled for writing! Finally. Once this room is moved around, then we can settle in for the winter, and enjoy living in it again.

There you have another busy weekend. I may not have things on time, but I am still writing, something, when I get a chance.  How was your weekend?

Weekend Warrior

Another late entry.  Good news is that I think things are going to slow down for a week or two. I sure hope so.  I am trying to write a book this month, and I am falling behind.

Not to fear, tomorrow is a new day, and I will start making up time and words when I have less going on in my social life.  Busy, busy, busy.  I never had such a busy year as I have this past year.  I am not sure of the exact date, but my original blogging journey started in November 2016. I am working on the website, writing a novel this month, writing down thoughts and ideas for my fantasy trilogy.  Thinking about all of that makes my head spin.

I had things that needed my attention this past weekend. I was doing a little extra time at work late last week.  Then I started my weekend at Houlie’s with a friend.  He was helping me out with some rides, and I thought he deserved a thank you meal. We enjoyed the food. It is always good there.  There has been a long stretch of road construction in the area, and it had been a while since I had my favourite Mozza sticks. They did not disappoint.

My friend and I ran errands, and then he left me for a viewing of the Silver Wave Film Festival 2017. I needed to be at the Midnight Madness showing of killer ducks and zombie movies.  There were two short films and a 78 minute long movie.  Short film 1 was called Duck Duck Noose. It was hilarious.  I laughed all the way through it, with the rest of the audience. The title was a dead give away.  Killer ducks indeed.

The second short film was described as a trailer.  It was called Turned. It was a serious fictional documentary zombie movie trailer. It was filmed in Cape Breton (Horray for Cape Breton!) and it started with someone waking up after being bitten by a zombie.  It followed her journey home, and her change from being a human to a zombie. It tackled some deep concepts in a few short minutes, and it was enjoyable to see a different perspective on the zombie apocalypse.

The headliner was Anonymous Zombie.  It was filmed in New Brunswick, and my friend Kadi Oram was the Special/Visual Makeup Artist for the movie.  I wanted to go to the movie premiere to support her and to see the movie.  It was great.  It was funny, gory, and almost spooky at times.  There was a lot of action, and clever plot twists from the start to the end.  I was glad I made the effort to go and see it.  It is the first time I was at the festival or any official movie premiere.  I had not been home after work before going, so I was in my casual Friday work clothes.  Kadi looked fantastic! I didn’t have a lot of time to chat with her, but I made sure that I told her husband that I enjoyed the movie.  I sat right in front of the director.  I wondered if he thought that I laughed in a few parts that weren’t supposed to be funny, or not. I have a wacky sense of humour, and I laughed lots while watching the movie.  It was meant to be funny, so it wasn’t all serious, but sometimes I felt like I was the only one laughing at certain parts.

Onward to Saturday.  I volunteered at the Pet Expo with Boston Terrier Rescue Canada. I was a part of a team, so my presence was only required for 3 hours. Piece of cake. or in this case, a cookie by donation.  🙂 They had the giant chocolate chip and skor bits cookies again.  Fantastic investment of $2.00, and it goes to the rescue.

BTRC Pet Expo 2017 5

They were huge and delicious.  I went back for more on Sunday, and they were sold out!

I was glad to help, and knowing that it was just a few hours made it easy to pitch in and do my part. Here is the booth.  They have a lot of variety!

I then went home, after the volunteering shift was over, and I was hungry. So Roy and I went to Houlie’s. (twice for me on the weekend) We got wings and nachos.  I didn’t forget the Mozza sticks, I never miss them. It was good, and Roy decided that he likes the breaded wings better. We got 2 flavours, and one breaded, and one not. Now we know.  The trick will be to remember.

We met up with the friend from earlier in the story to go and see Thor Ragnarok.  If you like this type of movie, it will be a great choice. Stan Lee had a speaking part, and was unexpected character-wise, even though he is expected to appear in all of his movies. There was a new character that was a lot of fun, too. No spoilers here, just go see it. You will be glad that you did.

Sunday had a few errands and an online write in. I did some NaNoWriMo writing in the write-in. It was a way to get back on track. I am falling behind again, but the night is young.  I am going to sign off for now.  I am sorry it was a little late this week, but that is a wrap. What did you do this weekend?

Weekend Warrior # 36

Weekend Warrior

I was so busy this past weekend that I am writing this on Monday after work.  It was totally another Hulk Smash weekend win for me!  Super busy, unable to attend everything I wanted to do and lots of fun!

I had company Friday night.    As they are not fans of Halloween, I spent the evening with them instead of attending my friend’s annual Birthday Halloween Bash. I am a fan of Halloween, and I made up for that Saturday.  My company was more rarely able to visit with me, so I spent a quiet night at home, entertaining.  We made supper and shared a bottle of wine.  It was nice.

Saturday.  Oh my goodness, Saturday was a little messed up and a lot of fun!  My time management skills were a little off.  My guests had a 5 AM wake up call, and I went back to bed after they hit the road.  I slept in as long as I could and got up to run errands.  I needed to buy ingredients for the One-Eyed Deviled Eggs I was making for the parties.  I made regular deviled eggs, sprinkled some smoked paprika on top, and then garnished them with a slice of pimento stuffed green olive and red pepper pieces.  They were supposed to look like One-Eyed Devil…ed Eggs.  I will share a pic, and you can tell me how I did.  I thought I did a good job.

One-Eyed Deviled Eggs

One-Eyed Deviled Eggs

There was a NaNoWriMo kick-off event that I just could not swing.  I had two other parties on Saturday, so I had to pick the ones I needed to go to.  For social obligatory reasons.  As I will be mostly an author/hermit for the month of November, writing my NaNo book.  I will have NaNoWriMo friend time in November.  As it should be.

I went to the first party late.  It took more time than expected to make almost 2 dozen One Eyed Deviled Eggs.  Then I had to get into costume and do my makeup.  I will let the cat out of the bag, now.  I am dressing up as a Leopard this year.  I have a nice leopard print two-piece outfit, that can be worn anytime, and in fact, I wear it as an outfit or separately off and on.  Paired with other clothes, of course.  The top goes with jeans or dressier pants, and the skirt can be worn with usually a black solid dressy top.  For Haloween, I am wearing the outfit.  I did not manage to find or make a tail, so I am just not going to talk about it.  That is what I will say if I am asked, “I don’t want to talk about it.”  It should make it awkward if someone pushes the issue, and I am planning to make it that way.  Like there was a terrible accident, and I don’t want to talk about it.  I do, however, have my own cat toy. 😉  Just for fun!

I use a product by Lise Watier called Magnifix that is a makeup fixative spray.  It is made with white tea, it is also paraben and alcohol-free.  I was told to get it for my wedding, and it is a wonderful spray to have.  I spray it on after finishing my makeup and use the cool air low setting of my hair dryer to dry my face after spraying it on.  It does a wonderful job of keeping my makeup on, except for my lips, and well, there isn’t a lipstick I have tried that doesn’t wear off over time.  I am getting brave enough to look into some lip staining products.

The second party was with colleagues that are friends.  By then Roy & I were hungry, so we showed up with One-Eyed Deviled Eggs and pizza to share.  Roy didn’t stay long after the pizza was gone, but he came back for me at the end of the party.  It was fun to hang out with friends from work outside of work. 🙂 I had a great time.  I learned that Tequila doesn’t make my clothes fall off and that I have a stop signal when drinking it.  I was drinking it for the first time as the only alcohol for the evening.  My last drink didn’t taste good anymore, so I sadly dumped it down the sink before leaving.  I switched to water at that point in the evening.  I was tired yesterday, but no headache as I had managed enough water to chase.  It is important for a Diabetic to snack when drinking, and for everyone to rehydrate when drinking.  And check with your doctor first if you are on any medications before having drinks, just to be sure that there are no side effects.  Better safe than sorry.

It’s time to let the cat out of the bag.  I am facing Halloween 2017 as a Leopard.  I went online for makeup ideas and then bought the supplies.  The first run was a blast!  I will be in the same costume tomorrow.  I may change it up a bit, but the foundation of it will be the same.  Time to settle in for the night. I am going to have to be up early to recreate the same kind of look for the day tomorrow.

Happy Halloween!

Weekend Warrior

I spent a bit of time cat sitting this weekend.  That happens sometimes.  I like cats, and there may be a time when we need help from our friends, so I make sure I am available.
I watched some movies on Netflix with the cats.  Movies my husband has not expressed an interest to see.  I watched the Gaga movie Five Foot Two.  I enjoyed it.  It gave the fan a look from the outside into her creative process, showing her as a person that has issues like everyone else.  It also gave insight into the thought process behind her last album, Joanne.  Wow.  I didn’t know what that song was written about.  I had an idea, but the documentary really explained a lot about the title song.  There is so much more to her heart than I knew.
I also watched Hidden Figures.  That was a really good movie.  It made me mad sometimes, about the way things used to be.  I am glad that things are different, now, but I don’t think that they are better.  People are people, and we need to work on being nicer to each other.  Me too.

I watched the documentary Long Time Running too.  As a Tragically Hip fan, I was sad to hear the news last week that their frontman, Gord Downie, died after fighting his battle with cancer.  It followed the band and a bit of his solo project in the last year.  They had a concert that was aired commercial-free last year, and any show they were in since, whether it was on CBC or CTV has been aired the same way.  The last concert of their last tour was broadcast across the country in its entirety pretty much everywhere.  I watched it on a big screen with several hundred strangers and a few friends.  It didn’t matter, we all sang, watched and cried together.  I am glad I made a point of doing that, as I never got to see them play live.  This was as close as I was ever going to get, and it was such a memorable evening.

I have reflected about the musicians that have died in the last few years.  I don’t know of any that took a fatal illness and fought it head on to raise awareness for both the illness and a cause close to their heart.  Gord has made Canadians stop and think about many things this past year.  He had the support of his medical team, his band, his family, and his fans through it all.  What a legacy to leave behind.
Last night another Gord Downie hour took up my attention.  It was the concert of his mission, The Secret Path.  It is not my story to tell, but it made me sad to watch it last night.  It wasn’t that it was being aired after he passed away, but the raw artistry displayed in telling the story along with the animation and song moved me to tears.  It was not a story with a happy ending, and it has me wondering what I can do to make things better.  I cannot fix the past mistakes made in Canada, but I can try to help and heal.  Someone said to just reach out and be a friend.  I think it is an excellent place to start.

Around all of this, I had a really busy Saturday.  I had 2 separate events. The first one was the annual Boston Terrier Rescue Canada Recycling for Rescue Event.  I showed up and helped separate some cigarette packages for recycling.  I helped hang a poster and went on a coffee run.  I donated to get a BBQ lunch.  My husband also enjoyed lunch and had cashed in some bottles a neighbour donated for the rescue.  I got someone to tell him about a dog that needs a home through the rescue, but he said no.  We have to be in agreeance when we get a dog, it has to work for both of us, and for the dog.  So no dog for me yet.

I then jumped in my car after bringing him home and getting my laptop.  I went to the first NaNoWriMo Meet & Greet of the season.  I had a little too much caffeine in me, and I chatted everyone’s ears off.  I hope I didn’t scare anyone off.  😉 I was a little bubbly, and if I am saying I was talking a lot, I was.  I think it went well.  We all answered questions when asked, and I think it was a success.

I was so busy I am feeling like I am forgetting something.  I had to scrub my BTRC t-shirt in between events as it decided to be a magnet for coffee and mustard.  Then I found out there were puppy paw prints on it too.  LOL.  There were dogs a the event, and they were friendly.  I really don’t know how I got all that done in a weekend, but I fit it all in.  I am feeling rather tired still, so I am hoping to have a chance to rest up around the other project I am working on.

I KNEW I WAS FORGETTING SOMETHING!  I am hard at work on the website.  I want to launch it on November 1st.  The blog has moved, and I will be adding this to the other location and the other stories up until November 1st will be in both locations.  Then I will be working on the website for the blogging and other new adventures from then on.  Don’t worry, it won’t be hard to find, and I am going to share the links when it is ready for the launch.  I am finally pushing forward with this project, and I am getting excited about it.  It was a super busy weekend, with ups and downs, full of challenges and progress.  Next weekend is busy with Halloween parties, and if we are lucky I will have some pictures for the story next weekend.  Until then, sorry it was a little late, but I was definitely a winner this past weekend!  How was your weekend?
