I once knew a girl
Back when I was a teen
Blue eyes like the ocean
In them I would dream
About getting together
And having some fun
She winked and she told me
I wasn’t the one
You’d better watch out
For the girls from St. Rose
They’re full of surprises
And they’ll keep you on your toes
Take it from some one
Just trust me I know
You’d better watch out
For the girls from St. Rose
I once knew a lady
When I was a lad
She said that she’d date me
I was never so glad
Her eyes were so green
Like the Margaree Isle
Made me weak in the knees
Oh with every smile
I took her to movies,
For dinners and dances
I wined her and dined her
With heartfelt romances
I tempted her with city lights
And all of my charms
She left me for another
For a life on the farm
You’d better watch out
For the girls from St. Rose
They’re full of surprises
And they’ll keep you on your toes
Take it from some one
Just trust me I know
You’d better watch out
For the girls from St. Rose
Boy, when I met your mother
My heart was in shreds
I’d given up on true love
And left it for dead
She treated me tenderly
Was gentle and kind
She mended my broken heart
That’s when I made up my mind
Her eyes were so brown
Like the cliffs by the shore
She’d lead me on and tease me
Til I begged her no more
I gathered up my courage
And I gave her a ring
And when she said yes
My heart it did sing
You’d better watch out
For the girls from St. Rose
They’re full of surprises
And they’ll keep you on your toes
Take it from some one
Just trust me I know
You’d better watch out
For the girls from St. Rose
The rest son, is history
A story well told
About life laughs and love
Being together, growing old
How ‘d I know she was the one
Well, I guess, I suppose
It was the first time she kissed me
On the tip of my nose
You’d better watch out
For the girls from St. Rose
They’re full of surprises
And they’ll keep you on your toes
Take it from some one
Just trust me I know
You’d better watch out
For the girls from St. Rose
Son, you will lose your heart
To the girls of St. Rose
You’d Better Watch Out For The Girls From St. Rose was written because the Stanfields song called Dunvegan’s Drums, and it inspired me to write a song about where I grew up. Celtic folk style, kind of a chant. Could be country, or a pop song.

The photo is of the sign for the place I am from. It is one of many small communities in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. The second language on the sign is in Gaelic. People in Inverness County have a Scottish background, and Gaelic is culturally important to that area.
Scottish Step Dancing, and Traditional Scottish Fiddle Music are also popular with the locals.
There are annual concerts, mostly in the summertime, where you can see the dancers and fiddle players entertain hundreds of people.
